With the snacking revolution in full swing, one Californian startup has taken a giant leap for frozen fare. US snack brand Seva Foods has launched the world’s first plant-based, freeze-dried ice cream, inspired by snacks developed for the Apollo space missions in the 1960s.

In line with current trends, Space Ice Kream is entirely vegan, using cashew and coconut bases to create healthy, bite-sizes ice-cream snacks. Currently available in the US in two flavours – vanilla and strawberry – Seva is responding to the growing demand for a new wave of grab-and-go nibbles that are both nutritious and indulgent. As such, its snack range – which also includes coconut-based vegan jerky, a further extension of the current trend for plant-based meat treats – remains as minimally processed as possible in order ‘to maintain optimal nourishment’.
