The hugely popular cloudy cyder brand Cornish Rattler is now being distributed nationally via supermarket chain Tesco, as the retailer responds to increasing demand from customers for more local produce.
Available in the traditional 500ml bottle nationally and packs of eight regionally, the 6% Rattler Original Cornish Cloudy Cyder is on sale in more than 600 stores from now.
Having celebrated its tenth anniversary last year, Rattler has become synonymous with Cornish summertime, resulting in production increasing by 40% in the last 12 months while the range has grown to include Pear, Berry, Mulled and a new flavour for summer 2017; Strawberry and Lime.
Rattler Original bottle sales are up by 40% year-to-date, and it has just won gold in the prestigious BBI Awards 2017.
Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm, Cornwall’s oldest cyder producer, is the family-run business behind Rattler and has been supplying its award-winning cyder to Tesco stores across Cornwall and Devon since it was launched in 2007.
Joe Healey, Commercial Director at Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm, said: “Rattler is our flagship brand and we’re immensely proud of its success. Thanks to its popularity we are now celebrating national distribution with Tesco, which is a fantastic achievement for the business and our family. We are delighted that even more people can head to their local Tesco and see our cyder on the shelves.
“The success of Rattler has facilitated the growth of Healeys Cyder Farm as a visitor attraction, and helped us with investment to grow our range of products. Our long term goal is to continue to invest in our family business to ensure it remains successful for the next generation.”
The farm was established by Kay and David Healey in 1986, and has grown to become the largest cider-maker in Cornwall, producing award-winning drinks including Rattler and Cornish Gold. Rattler is now sold through a number of key relationships, including Molson Coors, Bargain Booze, and supermarkets Tesco and Morrisons.
Today, more than 1,500 tonnes of apples are pressed and transformed into bottles of cider and hand-crafted fruit juices at Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm, near Newquay, which last year developed the capability to provide 24-hour production for the first time in its history to keep up with demand.
In Tesco, the 500ml bottle has a RRP of £2 and the pack of eight has a RRP of £11.
