As summer in Scotland finally arrives, an award-winning wholesale butcher Malcolm Allan is celebrating the success of its newest Scottish Slimmers Pork and Steak Sausages that recently launched in Asda stores across Scotland – ideal for BBQ season.
In just four weeks more than 100,000 of Malcolm Allan’s Scottish Slimmers Pork and Steak sausages have flew off the shelves, with sales set to soar by 50% this summer as sun lovers prepare to stock their fridges with the perfect BBQ treats.
The launch followed the success of the lorne sausage, steak burger and steak mince lines also endorsed by Scottish Slimmers, as the butcher looks to increase their range of healthier products for the Scottish public.
Overall Malcolm Allan sells up to 10 million sausages a year in Asda stores across the country.
The Pork Sausages are 62kcal per sausage and the Steak Sausages are 59 kcal per sausage, independently verified by a UKAS Accredited Lab. Under the Scottish Slimmers Weight Loss Plan the pork sausages are 2.5 checks and the steak 2 checks per sausage.
The sausages have passed all the Scottish Slimmers member taste tests and are made using Scottish beef and pork by Malcolm Allan Limited, Scotland’s Family Butcher. The new sausage lines launch exclusively in Asda stores this month, retailing at £2.50 per pack.
The Larbert-based wholesale firm, said it was developing healthier alternatives in response to the Scottish Government-backed campaign to lower public consumption of saturated fats and salt as well as changing consumer demands.
Gordon Allan, Director at Malcolm Allan, said: “We are delighted with the success of our new Scottish Slimmers range. We have a responsibility to offer alternative, healthier products. We have made a real effort as a firm to try to be innovative.
“We started with the healthier burger three years ago, and this is now our best-selling burger line, so we’re hoping for the same success with the new sausages.
“We are delighted to work with partners such as Scottish Slimmers and Asda to help make these products available to the Scottish public.”
Sandy Fleming, Business Development Manager for Scottish Slimmers, commented: “Scottish Slimmers members have been crying out for a healthier, low fat sausage recipe following the success of the Low Fat Steak Lorne, and due to such high demand and gaps in the current market we are delighted to be teaming up with our trusted food partner and fellow Scottish brand Malcolm Allan in helping make this a reality.”
June Rose, fresh buyer for Asda Scotland, said: “Malcolm Allan produces products that are premium quality and these new sausage lines endorsed by Scottish Slimmers help meet the gap in the market for healthier Scottish ranges and ready meals.
“Feedback from everyone who has tried the new line has been incredibly positive so we look forward to working with the businesses closely and hopefully increasing the range of products available in stores in due course.”
The Low Fat Pork Link Sausages and Low Fat Steak Link Sausages are available in selected Asda stores now and will retail at £2.50.
