The Newmarket Gin has been awarded Gold in the Spirits Design Masters 2016 gin category, for its quintessentially British, racing-inspired branding design. This latest award builds on the success of the gin which has already won Gold in the Harpers Design Awards 2016 and the Bronze medal for design and packaging in the New Individual Product category at the International Spirits Challenge (ISC) 2016.
The judging for The Design & Packaging Masters 2016 took place in London’s Copa de Cava restaurant and the judges awarded medals within each category based on the effectiveness of the graphic design, production quality, and overall impact on the consumer.
A key design element which caught the judges’ attention was the frosted glass bottle which features a view through ‘binoculars’ to the back of the bottle, causing the light to refract through the liquid, which creates a sense of movement akin to being at the races.
Mike Kean, founder of The Newmarket Gin, commented: “The gin was created as a celebration of Newmarket’s 350 years of racing; the bottle design truly encapsulates all things Newmarket and its racing heritage right down to the leather collar, which is made in traditional Newmarket tan by Gibson Saddlers – suppliers of racing colours to the Royal Family. We are really proud of the gin and what the product has achieved since it was launched last year, so it is wonderful to have it recognised with a Gold in the Global Spirits Masters for Design & Packaging.”
