Perfectly Clear has become the first flavoured water range to be certified by pioneering lower sugar movement, Sugarwise.
The sugar-free Perfectly Clear formula was found to meet Sugarwise’s strict standards regarding quality and free sugar content, following in-depth analysis by Cambridge University scientists.

Bottles of the UK-leading flavoured water product, manufactured by Sunderland-based Clearly Drinks, will bear the Sugarwise kitemark in 2017, ensuring consumers can easily identify the brand as a reputable, zero-sugar option.

Maurice Newton, Commercial Director at Clearly Drinks, said: “Sugarwise and Clearly Drinks are working to the same purpose – increasing the availability of quality zero sugar products and making sure they’re easy to identify.

“With sugar-related health issues such as obesity and Type 2 diabetes prevalent, organisations like Sugarwise are vital in raising awareness of the need for increased sugar free food and drink options. In the last year we sold tens of millions more bottles of Perfectly Clear than in 2015, as consumers become increasingly conscious of their sugar consumption.”

Rend Platings, founder of Sugarwise, commented: “The Sugarwise label clearly demonstrates to consumers that the product has been stringently tested and is low in free sugars. It’s great to see businesses like Clearly Drinks leading the way in the development of sugar-free products. ”

Vinicius Ferreira, Chief Scientist at Sugarwise, added: “Free sugars are the real culprit in our diabetes and obesity epidemic, as they are the ones that are associated with, simultaneously: decreased insulin sensitivity, nutritional deficiency, and over consumption. Many drinks, especially healthy sounding juice based drinks, contain too many free sugars to allow an individual to have a healthy diet complying with WHO guidelines since, unlike foods, typically all sugars in drinks are free.

“After testing Perfectly Clear’s free sugar levels, we can confirm it has earned its place in a Sugarwise diet. Ultimately, we hope that other soft drinks will follow the example that Clearly Drinks is setting, increasing the number of healthy drink choices for consumers.”
Clearly Drinks, formerly CBL Drinks Ltd, has spent the last year developing its range of sugar free brands to give consumers more choice and quality in the area of sugar free drinks.
