Rebecca Cope, Flavour Technology and Sensory Manager, tells us more about KP Snacks and their perfect candidate. First published a year ago.

Tell us three great things about working for your company

  1. We get to work on our fantastic range of snacks, including the new Hula Hoops Puft – my personal favourite.
  2. It’s never boring, there is always something new to work on and an opportunity to learn a new skill, gain experience and have fun.
  3. There is a real commitment to living the KP Values, with recognition for those who do that really well.

What are the qualities a candidate will need to succeed in this role?

It’s vital to be able to communicate in a clear and engaging way at all levels. You may need to take the Marketing Director through a detailed analysis or train Factory colleagues on the correct way to assess finished products.

You need to have a natural enthusiasm for food (we’re surrounded by it!), as well as sensory expertise and excellent analytical skills.

You’ll have to be great at planning and prioritising your work. It’s a busy role and requests come in from all areas of the business.

What would be the best preparation for an interview for this role?

Research our product range and understand the challenges facing our industry and the product attributes that are important to our consumers.

Have a look at the KP Values and Behaviours on our website and be prepared to show how you would apply them to the role.

What are the best (and worst!) things about this job?

There is great job satisfaction in providing the sensory results that are so important for decision making and then seeing an exciting new product on the shelf.

Although the role is varied, of course there is some repetition and it’s not always easy to ask the taste panel to assess yet another sample of the same product – sometimes we need to find creative ways to keep everyone motivated.

Tell us a little known quirky fact about your company.

KP stands for Kenyon Produce and the company originally sold Jams, sugar and pickles. These days we are all about snacks though – our new head office in Slough even has specially designed wallpaper featuring some of our iconic snacks!
