Entry to the 2014 FreeFrom Food Awards has just closed with a bumper crop of well over 350 entries – a significant increase on last year.

Not only were entries up, but 15% more companies entered this year of which nearly half were new to the awards – a telling indication of how this sector is keeping to its upwards trajectory.

Way out ahead in popularity was the new ‘Food to go’ category.

Certainly feeding a need as, right up at the top of most freefrom-ers’ wish lists (according to a survey carried out at last summer’s Allergy and FreeFrom Show) is a vending machine where they could get a gluten and dairy-free sandwich or a nut-free energy bar.
Not far behind in the popularity stakes was the another new category – After dinner Foods including desserts, freefrom ‘cheeses’ and cheese biscuits and chocolates and petit fours.

Other well supported categories included Breakfast foods, Raw Foods and superfoods, Store cupboard, Pizzas and Pastas and the Children’s Food category, now in its second year.

Judging for the awards will take place over a two week period at the end of January/beginning of February and a shortlist will be published on 12th February.

The presentation of the awards, by Antony Worrall Thompson, will take place at the annual, invitation only, FreeFrom Food Awards Networking party on 25th March in London, complete with a tasting buffet of the winning products.
