On The Menu, the first retail brand to produce a range of dietitian-approved main courses and desserts developed especially for seniors, is now available nationally to independent retailers.

The company’s meals are the first to have been developed with industry experts specifically to meet the needs of older people and are available from wholesalers Hunts Food Service, Eden Farm, Hulleys and Consort Frozen Foods.

It is estimated that there are four million over-75s living alone in the UK and one in five of these is malnourished due to factors including reduced ability to cook for themselves and a lack of foods that are appealing, safe to eat for an older digestive system and provide adequate nutrition.

The On The Menu range aims to fill this gap for seniors and availability in independent stores provides older people and those who care for them with a local destination where they can find a complete well balanced meal solution on their doorstep.

The packaging has been specifically designed for older consumers with easy to read ingredients and cooking instructions, large front of pack messaging and an easy to grip film pull tab.

The hand-prepared meals take into consideration the GDA recommended guidelines set out by the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research, provide 1 of your 5-a-day vegetables, achieve a high in protein status on pack and are low in fat.

The meals are free from MSG, GMO ingredients and typical irritants for those with digestive system disorders or other sensitivities such as colitis.

The range of mains dishes and desserts which are available are:

• Gammon in Parsley sauce with Carrot & Swede Mash and Baby Potatoes
• Savoury Minced Beef, Broccoli, Mash Potato & Yorkshire Pudding
• Liver in Onion Gravy, Mash Potato, Carrots, Green beans and Peas
• Pot Roast Chicken, Carrot & Swede with Baby Potatoes and Peas
• Pork & Apple Casserole, Baby Potatoes, Peas, Broccoli and Carrots
• Beef Ale Casserole, Broccoli Florets & Baby Potatoes
• Sponge desserts made with Bramley Apples

On The Menu founder and managing director Elizabeth Jones said:

“We’re thrilled to be able to offer our meals to even more local communities across the country.

“As traditional subsidised meals on wheels are gradually being decommissioned regionally and are being replaced with more expensive home delivery options, the need for local, affordable good food has never been greater. We intend to refresh the range throughout the year to offer variety to our customers.

“We’ve worked hard to ensure that our meals meet published guidelines and have removed ingredients that can cause sensitivity in those suffering from digestive conditions.

“Through our network of wholesalers and independent retailers we are able to provide a convenient and local destination for seniors or those shopping on behalf of loved ones.”
