WAITROSE INTRODUCES WINES FROM CHINA AND BRAZIL

August 14th, 2012

Waitrose has announced it will be the first supermarket to stock the Chinese wine Changyu Cabernet Gernischt from mid-August, which will be the only Chinese wine currently available at a British supermarket.

Following the launch of two Indian wines last year, the supermarket claims its leading the way for lesser-known wine producing countries to establish themselves in the UK.

Waitrose is also the first supermarket to introduce a sparkling wine from Brazil, a sparkling rosé Miolo Cuvee Tradition Brut Rosé NV.

Wine buyer Katie Mollet said:

“We’re bringing in a new era of lesser known wines being sold in the UK as the interest in China, and more specifically the Chinese wine industry, continues to grow.

“We scour the world to find exciting new wines and were particularly impressed by the Cabernet Gernischt 2011 from Changyu.

“Waitrose is proud to be leading the way for Chinese and Brazilian wine to grow in popularity in Great Britain, and we think our customers will enjoy this voyage of discovery with us.

“The Changyu is also a great for your Friday night takeaway; perfect with Chinese-style beef with ginger and spring onion.”

Both wines will be on offer as part of the Waitrose World of Wine showcase from 28 August.
