MASTERCHEF WINNER IS NEW FACE OF BILLINGTON’S

August 9th, 2012

Billington’s, the UK’s unrefined sugar specialist has signed MasterChef winner Shelina Permalloo, to celebrate the brand’s Mauritian origins.

Shelina, who was born to Mauritian parents learned her skills and knowledge of Mauritian cooking from spending time in the kitchen with her mother.

She used her cooking as a way of making herself feel closer to her culture and heritage, having never lived in Mauritius herself.

Shelina will be developing a range of recipes incorporating a selection of Billington’s unrefined sugars including the Light and Dark Muscovado, Golden Caster, Golden Icing, as well as Molasses, which have all been produced to lock in, rather than refine out the natural molasses of the sugar cane.

It is this difference which gives Billington’s its flavour and colour.

Shelina’s work with the brand will also encompass broadcast appearances, ‘How-To’ videos and several other baking-based initiatives.

Of the partnership, Shelina said:

“I’m still reeling from all that’s happened since MasterChef and I am absolutely delighted to have been approached by Billington’s; it’s a brand I use in my baking and one that is close to my heart with its Mauritian heritage.”

Tony Lucas, Marketing Director of Billington’s, said:

“Shelina is a perfect brand ambassador for Billington’s on every level and we are very excited about working with her and testing out all those baking recipes very soon.”.
