TESCO RELEASES NEW ‘UPMARKET’ FROZEN READY MEALS

Retailer Tesco has launched a new range of what it is calling an ‘upmarket’ selection of home-cookedstyle frozen ready meals.
The range rolled out earlier this month and the products can be microwaved or oven cooked.
The meals include: beef bourguignon with gratin potatoes; coq au vin with gratin potatoes; chicken, king prawns and chorizo paella; spinach, pancetta and pea risotto; sticky chilli beef with melon rice; and chicken farfalle with woodland mushroom pasta.
Each 450g meal has an rrp of £2.99.
The launch hopes to do well as own-label products have been responsible for most of the frozen sectors growth, with sales up 9.7% compare with 3.4 for brands.
