BUDGENS STOCKS MELON THAT ‘TASTES OF LIME’

July 11th, 2012

Retailer Budgens is claiming a UK retail first with the launch of new ‘lime melons’ into its stores.

The melons are described as having the texture and appearance of a cantaloupe melon but the flavour of a citrus lime.

Grown in Spain, the melon has not been sold in UK supermarkets before now.

Edward Vann, a Budgens store owner in Woodston, Peterborough said:

“The flavour is far more intense than a regular melon, with a definite citrus tang.

“It’s definitely unusual.”

The melon is only available for three weeks due to a short growing season.

50 independent retailers operating under the Budgens fascia are currently stocking the variety and they are rolling out to further stores this week.

The melons are priced at £1.49 each.
