HEINZ LAUNCHES VINTAGE LABELS FOR BEANZ AND SPAGHETTI CANS

April 17th, 2012

Heinz has announced the launch of new limited edition vintage labels for its market leading Heinz Beanz and Heinz Spaghetti cans in honour of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The vintage labels, available on the single 415g Heinz Beanz and 400g Heinz Spaghetti cans, reflect the designs used in 1952 – the year of the Queen’s coronation.

Available on shelf from May, with an RRP of: £0.69 for Heinz Beanz and £0.60 for Heinz Spaghetti, the label features the slogan ‘Celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee’ along with a front of pack flash highlighting ‘Heinz serving the nation for more than 60 years.’

Heinz has also exclusively secured a special display of the Heinz Beanz vintage cans in Fortnum and Mason from 23rd April until 1st May, the retailer which first stocked Heinz items back in 1886, to tie in with its longstanding history with the retailer.

The label designs were used in 1952 – the year of the Queen’s coronation.

It was in that year that Henry J. Heinz arrived at 181 Piccadilly from Baltimore with his carpet bag in hand.

It contained ‘seven varieties’ of his new patented tinned and bottled products, which proved such a success with the Fortnum’s buyer that he bought the lot, and the company has been selling Heinz goods ever since.

Other interesting facts that link the Heinz brand to the Queen:

  • · 1926: Heinz Spaghetti was created in 1926, the same year that the Queen was born
  • · 1952: The year Heinz was granted The Royal Warrant
  • · 1959: The new state-of-the-art Heinz factory in Kitt Green, Wigan, officially opened in May and was visited by HM the Queen Mother in July
  • · 2009: Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh, visited the Heinz factory in Wigan to mark the 50th anniversary of its official opening on 21st May 1959

Katherine Broadley, Senior Brand Manager, Heinz Beanz, said:

“Heinz’s heritage has close links with the Queen, with the creation of Heinz Spaghetti in the year that she was born, to the fact that Heinz items were first sold in Fortnum and Mason.

“With so many links, what better way is there to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee than to produce vintage label cans of Heinz Beanz and Heinz Spaghetti to honour our British heritage as well as provide retailers with an opportunity to capitalise on sales in time for the big celebration.

“We do hope that the Royal Family will mark the occasion by enjoying their very own cans of Heinz Beanz and Heinz Spaghetti!”

Heinz Beanz is the market leader in the SEM category with a 66 per cent value share of the total £308 million UK Bean Accompaniments market.

It is showing growth at +1.4per cent year-on-year.
