GEOBAR LAUNCHES FIRST FAIRTRADE GRANOLA BAR
Geobar, the UK’s first Fairtrade cereal bar, has reached another fair trade landmark and is launching the first fair trade granola bar available in the UK.
Geobar Crunchy Granola and Geobar Chocolate Break will join the three existing flavours in the Geobar family (Apricot, Mixed Berries and Chocolate).
Geobar is made by the UK’s leading fair trade organisation, Traidcraft and each bar is made with Fairtrade ingredients.
Geobar Crunchy Granola is the UK’s first fair trade granola bar and is made from oats mixed with Fairtrade honey from Chile and Guatemala.

Geobar is made by fair trade organisation Traidcraft
It comes in boxes of five twin packs at a recommended retail price of £2.10.
Geobar Chocolate Break is a cereal bar made with Fairtrade rice and Fairtrade raisins then is half dipped in milk chocolate.
It comes in boxes of six at a recommended retail price of £2.10.
Larry Bush, Marketing Director at Traidcraft, said:
“When you eat a Geobar you really are changing the world one bite at a time.
“Fair trade producers, their families and rural communities from across the world benefit every time someone buys a Geobar.
“We’re thrilled that the two new additions to the Geobar family will help us change the lives of even more people in developing countries.”
Geobar Crunchy Granola is made with Guatemalan honey from a beekeeping co-operative called CIPAC.
CIPAC is based in north-west Guatemala and has more than 140 members and sells honey gathered from over 5,000 hives by some 200 bee-keepers.
As well as buying Fairtrade honey from CIPAC, Traidcraft’s additional support has helped to provide technical assistance for the beekeepers, so they can cope with changing weather patterns that affect the bees and the honey harvest.
The Fairtrade premium on sales of honey to Traidcraft has helped the beekeepers to buy some land on which they will build a honey collection centre, which will make a big difference to those who live in very remote areas and is something that it would be hard for the co-operative to provide otherwise.
Geobars are available to buy from www.traidcraftshop.co.uk, Asda, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Tesco, The Co-operative, Oxfam and Amazon.
Geobar Crunchy Granola is available to buy at Waitrose.
