ALPRO ADDS POURING YOGURT TO ITS RANGE

March 22nd, 2012

Pouring yogurt is the latest addition to the expanding line-up of soya yogurts from Alpro, the maker of plant-based food and drink products for more than 30 years.

The launch follows on the heels of the introduction of a Fruity & Creamy soya yogurt in January, and is designed to appeal to consumers who are looking for a breakfast option.

Available in Simply Plain and Vanilla varieties, the soya-based yogurt is designed to be more ‘pourable’ than Alpro’s standard plain and vanilla soya varieties, making it a partner for breakfast cereals and a versatile cooking ingredient.

Alpro Pouring will be available in Tesco from early March.

Sales of Alpro soya yogurts are up by 3.3% in volume year-on-year against a decline of -1.3% (value +1.4%) in volume for the total yogurt category.

In fact, the brand has experienced a good start to 2012 with an 8% volume growth over the last 12 weeks alone.

John Allaway, commercial director of Alpro UK, said:

“The yogurt category has been having a tough time recently.

“However, our sales success reflects the fact that our products appeal to consumers who are on the look-out for a different offering and prepared to try something new – particularly if it’s also naturally healthy.

“That’s reflected in the strong sales growth within the natural healthy sector of the yogurts market, which is growing at 4.3%.

“We believe that Alpro Pouring will be a great addition to our portfolio, tapping into the growing usage of yogurt at breakfast.”

Alpro Pouring is available in 750ml tetrapaks with an RSP of £1.85.
