Waitrose has become the first UK supermarket to stock wine from India.

The retailer is stocking a peppery red, Zampa Syrah, and a crisp white, Ritu Viognier.

The wines are made from grapes grown in the Maharashtra region of western India.

Waitrose wine buyer Matt Smith said:.

“The quality of Indian wine has improved a great deal over the past five years.

“India has some ideal regions for grape-growing and it is exciting to be the first multiple retailer in the UK to showcase the quality this fascinating country has to offer.”
