DAIRY FREE ICE-CREAM LAUNCH FROM BESSANT & DRURY’S

Bessant & Drury’s Fine Ice-Cream Company has announced the launch of a coconut milk based dessert with the taste, texture and appearance of a premium ice-cream, but dairy free.
Steve Bessant started experimenting in his kitchen at home just 18 months ago with a borrowed ice-cream maker, as one of Britain’s health experts Steve is regularly advising clients who have food allergies, intolerances and sensitivities.
Dairy is one of the top two foods that cause such reactions and with the number of people affected on the rise, there are a number of alternative healthy foods to consume, of which coconut plays a major part.
Experimenting with recipes and ingredients to suit people both with and without dairy intolerances led to a vision to create a healthy, yet premium alternative to ice cream.
Bessant & Drury’s Fine Ice Cream Co. was formed, creating their frozen desserts in four flavours – Vanilla; Chocolate; Lemon and Strawberry – with further flavours to be announced.

Targeting the luxury market, it will be the only coconut milk based dessert in the UK, containing the health benefits of the super-food coconut, with no additives, colourings or preservatives and using real fruit.
In-store now at selected retailers Bessant & Drury’s claims its products are different from other dairy free desserts as they have a creaminess only associated with traditional ice-cream.
With its nutritious and “functional food” status, coconut was chosen as the main ingredient because it provides many health benefits beyond its nutritional content, which includes being cholesterol free, increasing metabolism, improving calcium and magnesium absorption.
It is also a good source of fibre and has the added benefit of the fat from coconut being burned by the body rather than stored as body fat.
Although the dessert’s are made with coconut milk, the coconut flavour remains invisible across the four flavours.
Co-Founder Steve Bessant commented:
“Our vision is to become a preferred choice for ice-cream lovers regardless of its dairy-free status.
“The product is aimed at the mainstream, premium market, with its superior taste and positioning all setting the scene for a luxury dessert.”
