MARKS & SPENCER’S ANGUS BEEF WINS SANDWICH OF THE YEAR

June 28th, 2011

Marks & Spencer’s Aberdeen Angus beef with red onion chutney sandwich has been voted the best new sandwich of the year.

The sandwich gained 14% of the vote in the British Sandwich Association’s survey of 3,000 consumers, enough to give it the top spot.

M&S were five percentage points better than their nearest rivals, the New York deli bloomer and chicken teriyaki with sweet onion sauce bloomer sold by Greggs.

BSA director Jim Winship said:

”We launched the competition to encourage innovation in the industry and we have been pleased by the level of support we have had from the public, with over 8,000 people visiting the competition website in the last month and over 3,000 voting.

“The creation of new sandwiches is key to keeping consumer interest in sandwiches.”

Twenty-three new sandwiches were mentioned by those taking part in the online survey, which launched in January.

The winning entry is currently sold in 246 M&S stores.
