BACON CONNOISSEURS’ WEEK RETURNS IN 2011

Bacon lovers will unite in March to celebrate the fifth annual Bacon Connoisseurs’ Week.

From 21 to 27 March 2011, premium bacon cures will be put in the spotlight and chefs, as well as butchers and retailers.

The Week is dedicated to highlighting the range of quality bacon available and its wide variety of uses – whether part of a traditional cooked breakfast, straight up in a bacon sandwich or as part of the main evening meal.

Bacon Connoisseurs’ Week hopes to raise awareness of the standards behind Quality Assured bacon, such as that which carries the Red Tractor logo, and also aims to boost sales across both the foodservice and retail sectors alike.

Consumers will be encouraged to learn about the taste of bacon during the Week and a high profile media campaign and involvement of a celebrity Bacon Connoisseur will surround the event.

The Bacon Ambassador will also take on the role of chief judge in the nationwide competition to find the best bacon cures in the country.

Open to all chefs, butchers, retailers and bacon fanatics, the competition is an opportunity to promote specialist cures.

There are three categories for entry; Smoked, Unsmoked and Speciality, and each entry will be in with the chance of winning a gold, silver or bronze award, as well as the coveted Overall Winner’s title.

Entry closes on 28 January, with winners announced at the start of the Week at a special launch event in London. Entry forms are available to download by clicking here.

Promotional material for foodservice outlets, along with recipe ideas, will also be made available in the run-up to the Week, to help drive up awareness and sales.
