ROD AND BEN’S LAUNCHES NEW ORGANIC FREE RANGE SOUP

September 30th, 2010

Rod and Ben’s has rustled up a brand new batch of soup to warm up consumers this autumn.

The new Organic and Free Range Chicken and Vegetable Soup will be launched on 1st October.

A recent winner in the 2010 Taste of the West Awards, the soup is made with a mix of fresh and organic vegetables and herbs gathered at just the right time to deliver their most intense flavours, and the very best tasting, Devon reared chicken.

The new soup is also low in salt, wheat and gluten free and has zero tolerance for anything artificial.

Rod Hall from Rod and Ben’s commented:

“We are really chuffed to be working with our neighbouring farmer who is as dedicated to his organic and free range chickens as we are to our veggies.”

The organic Hubbard chickens are a particularly slow growing breed that provides meat which is full of flavour.

They are reared to Soil Association standards – the highest standards available – in small groups with access and space for lots of free roaming. Rod Continued:

“Our new soup is the perfect marriage of ingredients grown only a stone’s throw away from our doorstep.

Once we’ve washed the mud off our veggies, carefully selected varieties are blended together in manageable batches with our homemade stock, chicken and herbs, using a simple recipe so that each ingredient’s integrity – colour, flavour, texture and nutritional value – is preserved.”

Rod and Ben’s award winning, mixed farm in Devon is run on the knowledge that the best tasting, most nutritious and honest food is picked and eaten in season without endangering the environment. Rod explained:

“Our strict home grown policy means that our pampered ingredients have a little extra time to laze around the farm and conserve their flavour before being picked.

Whether you think of soup as a spontaneous and substantial snack, a hearty treat, a simple starter or a wonderful way to get wholesome ingredients inside awkward eaters, we believe it can be slurped all twelve months of the year.”

In 1998 two home-grown men decided to go back to their grass roots and make a fresh start in Devon.

Rodney Hall and Ben Moseley met while studying agriculture at Seale-Hayne College over fifteen years ago and when the tenancy for Bickham Farm in Devon became available the two friends were reunited giving Rodney the opportunity to fulfil his childhood ambition of becoming a farmer and Ben the chance to develop an organic system on a UK farm.

Bickham Farm, a mixed farm of one hundred and six acres, which is certified by the Soil Association, was put into conversion in 1998 and in September 1999, Rod and Ben’s started to sell its first vegetables boxes loaded with organic, seasonal and vibrant veggies.

It was only a matter of time before they started leaping in to the soup pot and Rod and Ben’s wholesome soups were born.

Rod and Ben’s Organic and Free Range Chicken and Vegetable, full to the brim soup pots are available from independent retailers, delicatessens and farm shops all around the Country and by mail order.

Available from 1st October pots are six hundred gram and have a RRP of £4.
