AUSTRALIA PREPARES FOR NATIONAL NUDE FOOD DAY
This October sees the launch of National Nude Food Day, supported by Nude Food Movers in partnership with Nutrition Australia, National Nude Food Day aims to highlight the importance of eating fresh, healthy, wrapper free lunches for our health.
While many schools and businesses across Australia have been hosting their own ‘Nude Food’ or ‘Rubbish Free’ Days, National Nude Food Day will bring the whole community together to proactively improve their health and the health of our planet.
Hundreds of schools and a growing number of businesses have already registered online at www.nudefoodday.com.au and consumers from other countries are being urged to do so to.
This website will transform on 30 August to the online hub of National Nude Food Day where visitors will find activities for students, recipes for parents, resources for corporates and classroom activities for teachers.
Registered schools will also be mailed a pack full of all the resources they need to make National Nude Food Day a success in their school.
These packs will include a Nude Food Movers Rubbish Free Lunch Box, promotional posters and online access to lesson plans, certificates of participation and more.
Nude Food Day has been developed in response to the increasing concern surrounding two of the nation’s most critical issues: the importance of good nutrition for optimal health, and assigning a greater commitment to minimising our environmental footprint.
Aloysa Hourigan, national spokesperson for Nutrition Australia said:
“With the 2010 theme for National Nutrition Week being ‘Falling in Love with Food – Healthy Food; Healthy Planet’, National Nude Food Day is a perfect fit – we’re excited to be in partnership with such an inspired awareness campaign.”
As a part of Nude Food Day, Nude Food Movers is contributing a portion of its September and October sales from its Rubbish Free Lunch Box in support of Nutrition Australia’s educational health programs for Australian kids.
Dale Harbinson, Managing Director, Smash Enterprises – Nude Food Movers said:
“The launch of Nude Food Day is very exciting for Nude Food Movers, as it represents everything we stand for; encouraging Australians to be healthy and to look after their environment.
We are looking forward to building our relationship with Nutrition Australia in the coming years, to encourage all Australians to eat nude!”
Childhood obesity has been rapidly increasing with up to twenty five percent of Australian children being overweight or obese.
The implications for the future health of these children are very concerning. Already, one identified major negative outcome is the rising rate of diabetes in childhood, and obesity and diabetes in adult life.
Australia is also among the highest producers of waste in the world (OECD 2002). It generates waste at a rate of 2.25 kilograms per person per day, the majority of which ends up in landfill (AGO 2004).
During 2002-03 over 17 million tonnes of waste was disposed of at landfills in Australia.
National Nude Food Day hopes to raise awareness of these two issues in a fun and innovative way.
