SUMMERDOWN LAUNCHES CHOCOLATE MINT THINS

August 25th, 2010

Summerdown has launched Chocolate Mint Thins, the newest addition to its range of award-winning peppermint products.

Over the last decade, Summerdown has reintroduced traditional Black Mitcham peppermint into the UK as, back at the start of the 20th century, England was famous for producing the best mint in the world — the French still call peppermint menthe Anglaise, or English mint.

Over the years, pressure to grow food crops and the cost of labour brought a decline in cultivation, leaving the US to become the centre for commercial production.

Summerdown’s mission has been to reintroduce this traditional crop to the UK, using the latest technology at its farm in the foothills of the Hampshire downs.

When the mint fields have been harvested, the leaves are taken to their purpose-built distillery to produce rare single estate peppermint oil, with consistent quality and a cooler, more intense flavour and scent than other imported varieties.

This pure English peppermint oil is what gives Summerdown’s mint chocolates their unusual taste.

This new box of Chocolate Mint Thins contains twenty thin discs of rich dark peppermint chocolate.

Summerdown also produce an award-winning English Peppermint Tea, Peppermint Creams, Chocolate Mint Crisps, and Peppermint oil.
