MACKIE’S LAUNCHES CHILLI PEPPER FLAVOUR CRISPS

August 4th, 2010

Mackie’s has launched their newest flavour, Scotch Bonnet Chilli Pepper, into their range of thick cut potato crisps.

In 2009 Mackie’s the ice cream brand expanded itself when it launched into the snack market.

Mackie’s crisps were received very well and picked up the top “Product of the Year” award at this years Scottish Food and Drink Excellence Awards.

Kirstin Mackie, managing director of Mackie’s crisps said:

“We know that flavours with a Scottish twist are popular because Haggis & Cracked Black Pepper is our best selling flavour.

When we wanted a chilli based flavour, Scotch Bonnet peppers were the perfect choice because they provide both a fiery hot taste and a link to our Scottish heritage.”

Mackie’s cooking process is specialised for making good quality crisps and they put it down to the oil they use.

Cooking oil suffers several changes if subjected to too high temperatures and/or prolonged cooking times and these changes can cause organoleptic failure ( a bad effect on taste, aroma and texture) along with creation of unhealthy forms of fatty acids.

Mackie’s cooking oil is therefore gently heated by thermal oil (not direct gas burners), kept to a minimum volume and quickly conveyed and replaced by the system – which all helps keeps the oil in good condition.

The current range of Mackie’s crisps on the market are available in seven different flavours which include; Sea Salt, Sea Salt & Vinegar, Mature Cheddar & Onion, Cherry Tomato & Herbs, Flame Grilled Aberdeen Angus, Haggis & Cracked Black Pepper and the newest addition Scotch Bonnet Chilli Pepper.
