GALLOWAY LODGE IS AWARDED FIVE GREAT TASTE AWARDS
Galloway Lodge Preserves have scooped five awards at this years Great Taste Awards.
Picking up two gold stars for their Beetroot Chutney and for their Rhubarb and Elder Flower Jam, one gold star for their Raspberry and Redcurrant Jam and one for their Bramley Apple Chutney Galloway Lodge Preserves walks away happy again.
For 2010, over six thousand products were judged over a two-month period and the Awards’ organiser, the Guild of Fine Food, constantly refines the judging mechanics and this year was no exception.
Before gold a award can be awarded, experts taste, discuss and agree on their favourite and for two or three stars, up to twenty judges must unanimously agree an entry has achieved absolute perfection.
Over three hundred and fifty experts including key buyers, retailers, chefs and food writers blind tasted entries to ensure they are fairly and independently assessed.
The judges commented on each of the preserves:
“The Beetroot Chutney would go very well with cheese; good chutney consistency and the Rhubarb & Elderflower Jam has a very good balance; good glossy finish.
The Gooseberry & Strawberry Jam has a fabulous combination of flavours; Particles of fruit are perfect. The Raspberry & redcurrant Jam has good fresh flavours in a jam that has not been overcooked and the Bramley Apple Chutney is artisan & true”.

Galloway Lodge Preserves is the home of Poacher’s Pickle – one of their most popular products.
Poacher’s Pickle is their only trademarked chutney and a Gold Great Taste Award winner and they are most famous for this. They describe it as the little black dress of chutneys.
You can take this one anywhere and it can become very addictive. Made with tomatoes, apples and onions as well as Malt vinegar from barley, it’s perfect with smoked meat and mature cheese.
