Fish4Ever Launches More Products

August 9th, 2010

Even on the other side of the world Fish4Ever sustainable canned fish is gaining support – Australia’s Greenpeace Canned Tuna Guide has put Fish4Ever at the top of the list for being the most sustainable canned tuna.

Meanwhile in the UK, Fish4Ever has just launched two new “Scottish” fish in Spring Water which are suitable for the slimming and local food market.

In the Greenpeace report Fish4Ever was awarded eighty six per cent, which makes it eight times better than some of the mainstream canned tuna companies who hold much of the UK market as well as Australia.

Managing director Charles Redfern said:

“Greenpeace rated us at eighty six per cent which was the highest award given, seventy per cent and above were considered “Good” and anything below that were considered “Must Improve” or “Very Poor” which goes to show that at the moment we are the only producer who has good enough practices.

Our class topping performance was repeated in the UK with Ethical’s Consumers first look at the world of Canned Tuna.”

The Greenpeace Guide judges on the following criteria

• If the tuna comes from overfished stocks;
• If the tuna comes from illegal vessels or companies;
• If the tuna can is labelled correctly; and
• If the tuna was fished using methods that result in high levels of by-catch.
Brands were also ranked on their:
• Commitment to not source tuna from proposed marine reserves.
• Commitment to equitable sourcing policy for tuna.

The sardines have been launched for anyone who wants to have all the goodness of sardines without the oil – they are 179kcals per one hundred grams and the tin weighs one hundred and twenty five grams.

Low in salt with 0.1g sodium per one hundred grams these are better for your heart than those canned in brine.They have a rrp of £1.50.

The sardines have bones and therefore have good levels of calcium as well as vitamin D, B12 and protein and, of course, Omega 3 oils.

The mackerel are 222kcals per one hundred gram and the tin weighs in at one hundred and twenty five grams. Very low in salt at 0.1g of sodium they are high in protein 18.2 per one hundred grams.

The new fish products will be in shops by the end of the summer, while other Fish4Ever products are available from ASDA, Ocado, selected Waitrose, Booths (from the autumn) and good independent shops.
