THE NATIONAL TRUST LAUNCHES NEW BISCUIT RANGE
The National Trust has launched its first range of biscuits as part of its expanding quality foods and drink offering.
The first two biscuit varieties to go on sale are Lancashire Lemon Curds and Oat Crumbles.
The new range will be available to purchase at selected Morrisons stores across the UK.
The National Trust have informed us that three new recipes are being planned to follow the initial launch later on this year.
The biscuits use traditional recipes from National Trust properties, together with UK-grown wheat and oats, including grains from the Trust’s own tenanted farms.
They join the initial range of National Trust potatoes, beer and breads which were launched last autumn.
Rob Macklin, the National Trust’s head of agriculture, said:
“We have been delighted by the response to the foods launched under the National Trust label. We know the National Trust brand enjoys huge consumer loyalty, which is reflected in our experience so far.
Sales of our potatoes, for example, exceeded estimates by thirty six per cent within the first five weeks of launch.”
The National Trust is one of the UK’s biggest farmers, with five hundred thousand acres of food-producing land and over one thousand five hundred tenant farmers.
The Trust has long celebrated the best of Britain’ s foods and supports food quality, environmental sensitivity and sustainable food production.
All National Trust cereal suppliers are working to LEAF marque standards to guarantee responsible farming.
The new biscuits are produced under licence by Rivermill Ltd and other specialist companies, as a long-term brand extension programme developed by the National Trust with The Licensing Company (TLC).
Macklin continued:
“We take the origin of ingredients seriously, insisting on UK provenance for key ingredients as a matter of course. Importantly, we are aiming to increase the number of ingredients sourced from our own farmers as the range develops.”
Richard Dennett, Biscuit Buyer at Morrisons said of the new biscuit range:
“We are delighted to be selling the National Trust biscuit range in selected Morrisons stores.”
The National Trust biscuits are on sale now in 150g packs priced at £1.49, and is available at over three hundred Morrisons’
store around the UK.
