SCHWARTZ LAUNCH NEW HEALTHY EATING PLAN
Schwartz have launched a new healthy eating plan in order to help the nation with their diets.
Recent research has discovered that 63% of UK consumers admit to being ‘Add-aholics,’ sprinkling salt and using sugar-laden table sauces on all of their meals in to add more flavour.
The poll was conducted by herbs and spices expert, Schwartz. Their research reveals that:
- Over a third of people add extra salt to their meals on top of the salt that is contained in the ingredients
- Over a third of add on sugar-laden table sauces on a regular basis
- A fifth of people use extra butter to add flavour to a dish
- Under 30s are the worst culprits with over half regularly adding extra salt
- Women are more than twice as likely as men to opt for herbs and spices as a healthy flavouring alternative
As 86% of the nation worries about healthy eating this research exposes that:

two thirds can notstick to a diet because they do not like the blandness of healthy food. To eat healthily, over two thirds of people say they would reduce fat levels and over half would cut salt intake. Just a quarter of people actually experiment with herbs and spices to add flavour to our food so that they do not have to compromise on taste.
Consumers remain confused about less popular herbs and spices. Nearly two thirds of people mistakenly thought that fresh root ginger is spicier than powdered ginger. And one in ten thought that oregano originated in Japan with some commenting on it being the art of folding paper (origami).
Vicky Cojeen, Schwartz Marketing Manager, said of the poll results:
“Most people have good intentions when it comes to eating healthily but it is the small things that often let us down and it’s surprising to see how many people are still adding unhealthy extras to their meals.
The nation needs to change its habits for good and become more adventurous with their cooking – adding herbs and spices is a small change that can make a big difference to both the taste and your diet.”
To help the nation with its eating habits, Schwartz has launched its Spice Up Your Healthy Eating plan. Tried and tested by Jayne Middlemiss and created by nutritionist, Azmina Govindji, the plan shows consumers how to use herbs and spices to add flavour and improve the taste of their meals with less fat, salt and sugars.

The large range of recipes are categorized under breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner.
The healthy eating plan also offers consumers a list of items they are allowed to consume once a day if they so desire. An example of a day’s plan would be;
Cinnamon Fruit & Nut Granola Bars for breakfast; Lemon & Thyme Chicken Ciabatta Sandwich for lunch; a mid afternoon snack of Tomato juice (add a dash of Worcester sauce if you like) and Moroccan Paella to finish for dinner.
The Schwartz Spice Up Your Healthy Eating plan can be viewed on their website where consumers can create their own weekly meal planners online.
