NEW RANGE OF BLUEBERRY BASED SAUCES LAUNCHED AT LUDLOW SPRING FOOD FESTIVAL
A new range of sweet and savoury sauces, all made with home grown Blueberries, have been launched in the UK.
Wood Cottage Berry Farm, on the Welsh/Shropshire border have now put into full production their range of BLUE sweet and savoury sauces.
BLUE officially launched a range of sauces complete with new branding, at the Ludlow Spring Food Festival (7th – 10th May 2010).
In the days that followed, there has been a large amount of interest in the products – both from the press and from retailers across the UK who are looking to stock the range.
The BLUE range is designed to be versatile, marketed as sauces, dressings and elixirs.
The sweet range can be used to accompany pancakes, ice cream or porridge while the savory sauces are created to be used as salad dressings and as additional flavour to summer dishes.
Some of the sauces can even be added to sparkling wine or chilled red wine.
The build up to the product launch began in September 2009 at the Ludlow Food Festival, as Guy Springett, one of the company founders, explains:
“We took a limited quantity of our sauces and were keen to see what the response was to our products. We’re all really enthusiastic foodies and the sauces that we make have a wide range of influences.
We were delighted with the response and we’ve spent the past few months developing our branding, website and business strategy ready for the launch”
Believed to be the only blueberry based range of sauces in the world, there is a range of 10 varieties; from a rich BLUE Chocolate Sauce, to a BLUE Thunder Dressing.
All of BLUE’s products are produced with fruit from the farm, all hand-picked and grown without the use of insecticides.
The produce includes: apples, pears, gooseberries, plus the chilies, herbs and spices that go into the savoury sauces.
In total there are 12,000 blueberry bushes on the farm, since starting to plant the bushes in 2006, the farm has seen a huge increase in wildlife – something that they’re very proud of.
Guy Springett continues:
“We are very fortunate to have received advice and support from the CYWAIN project who have funded consultancy and research for us, and also the Food Tech Centre (Coleg Menai) in Llangefni who ran our food trials and nutritional information tests”
The BLUE range is now available through a growing number of quality farm shops and delis as well as on their website.
