MUMS CREATE HEALTHY ICE LOLLY FOR SCHOOLS

June 1st, 2010

Pupils from thirteen secondary schools are now replacing sugary, high fat desserts at lunchtime with new ice-lolly tubes containing nothing but real fruit.

The new Real Fruit FRENZY ice treats are produced to help young people lick their way to the recommended five portions of fruit a day.

The Real Fruit FRENZY lollies are the creation of mums, Sarah Smith and Zoë Meredith.  The mums’ came up with the idea of creating a tasty, naturally-sweet treat for teenagers when trying to ensure their own children were including enough fruit in their diet.

Mum of three Zoë said:

“Trying to persuade teenagers to choose the healthy option is often very challenging and when your child goes to secondary school you have even less control over their diet.

Our aim was to provide a delicious product that was fun and refreshing to eat while providing growing youngsters with thevital vitamins they need at this important stage in their development.”

One of the schools to introduce Real Fruit FRENZY is Thurstable School, Essex. The catering manager, Roger Verrall says:

“The new Real Fruit FRENZY lollies are proving hugely popular among our students

We are delighted to be one of the first schools in the country to take the step to introducing a healthy dessert alternative. The lolly tubes are also very hydrating, which helps to keep the students alert during their afternoon lessons – especially important during the summer months.”

Real Fruit FRENZY lolly tubes contain 100% real fruit (not from concentrate), no added sugar, no additives, no preservatives and no nasties at all.

It is expected that due to the success of the scheme, more schools will soon be offering this healthy alternative to their students.
