LINCOLN & YORK LAUNCH BIODEGRADABLE COFFEE PACKAGING
Coffee roasting company, Lincoln & York has developed a new range of biodegradable packaging that keeps coffee fresh, and will be launching it at Caffè Culture this June.
The company has developed the packaging in response to the growing need for green alternatives for the Out Of Home (OOH) market, in order to reduce the negative impact that foil packages can have on the environment.
Lincoln & York’s new coffee packaging comes in a range of sizes and can be used for both coffee beans and coffee roast
blends in a transparent or metalized finish, both of which are compostable.
The material is a two-layer structure of metalized cellophane and a sealing layer of corn and potato starch.
Extensive tests on the products, carried out by Lincoln & York, illustrate that the metalized packaging decomposes within one year and the transparent packaging takes just six to seven months to decompose.
The packs have been designed to have a perfect oxygen barrier for half a year to keep the coffee fresh.
James Sweeting, Director at Lincoln & York, said:
“We are pleased that we can finally unveil our new packaging to customers at Caffè Culture this summer.
As a company, we believe that high quality coffee packaging is essential for an excellent coffee product and we are pleased that our biodegradable bags do not compromise on the freshness of our coffee.”
Lincoln & York creates coffee products for a wide variety of clients in the UK and Europe, ranging from high street names to the coffee shop, hotel, contract caterers and retail sectors.
The company sources the raw ingredients for its products from around the world and provides services ranging from consultation through to packaging the finished product.
Sweeting continues:
“Both the metallic and non-metallic packaging options are suitable for keeping coffee fresh for up to six months, making the material ideal for use within the hotel, restaurant and catering sectors and other food service markets.”
Lincoln & York is licensed by the Fairtrade Foundation to roast and pack Fairtrade coffee, and holds accreditations from Organic Farmers and Growers, Utz Certified and Rainforest Alliance Certified™ farms.
The company will be unveiling its new packaging on its stand, number E24, at the industry’s trade exhibition, Caffè Culture at Olympia, which runs from the 23 – 25 June 2010, although Lincoln & York is also offering the new packaging commercially now.
