25th – Sunday 27th June, 12:00 – 18:00.
Tapas Fantasticas returns to London, courtesy of Wines from Rioja and this year’s event boasts a new, central location plus an extra day added to make it a long weekend.
Now in its third year the free festival – which celebrates Rioja wine and Spanish tapas – invites consumers to come and taste a variety of red, white and rosé wines from some of Rioja’s most famous vineyards.
This year, forty one Rioja wineries will be exhibiting at Tapas Fantasticas, providing visitors with the opportunity to purchase the wide range of wines they can sample.
A diverse selection of tapas from London’s Spanish restaurants will be on offer and tapas chefs from the home of Rioja, who will be flying in for the weekend.
Last year’s event saw over 10,000 people attend the event at Brick Lane and as a result this year a more central venue hopes to beat last years numbers, confirmed as Potters Fields Park,by Tower Bridge.
New activity for 2010 includes live cookery demonstrations by Spanish chef José Pizarro, formerly from Borough Market’s Brindisa restaurant.
Visitors can also sign up for wine tasting seminars with wine experts Olly Smith and Susy Atkins to learn more about Rioja. There will be four Rioja wine tasting seminars on each day of Tapas Fantasticas, which provide a thirty minute session, teaching visitors about taste, smell and learning which white, red and rosé wines are suited to their individual taste
buds as well as which will complement their choice of food.
Tickets for the seminars cost £10 per 30 minute session and include five sample glasses of wine. They are bookable in advance via the website by clicking here.
In terms of entertainment there will be live Spanish music and a shaded area especially for children, where there will be colouring and other activities for them to participate in.
Visitors will receive four complimentary tokens which can be exchanged for samples of top class Rioja wines when they buy a wine glass on entering the festival. Visitors can also purchase tapas dishes and glasses of wine from all exhibiting restaurants and wineries throughout the day.
