EMBERTON HALL TO LAUNCH 1% FAT MILK RANGE

June 28th, 2010

Embleton Hall Dairies of Wingate, County Durham have launched a 1% fat fresh milk in response to market demands.

The new product will be available in 500ml and 2 litre sizes.

Embleton supply the NHS, foodservices, schools, colleges, universities, multiple and independent retailers.

Paul Thompson, Owner of Embleton Hall Dairies says :

“People are starting to understand the health benefits of drinking 1% fat milk and they are delighted that they don’t have to compromise in any way on taste or health benefits.

As a smaller dairy we need to differentiate yourself, and we believe the 1% offering will give us a competitive advantage.”

Market Research undertaken by the Food Standards Agency in December showed that after extended use at home 1%fat milk exceeded expectations for the majority, with most being surprised by its overall taste, richness and creaminess.

Overall it was seen as an acceptable alternative to semi-skimmed milk with 94% or more finding it an acceptable alternative across all applications, including in hot drinks, over cereal, as a drink on its own, in milk shakes and in cooking.

With considerable health benefits, 1% fat milk represents an attractive proposition to regular semi-skimmed milk users.

After extended trial in home, overall opinion of 1% fat milk improved dramatically and all key measures significantly increased including consideration, acceptability as an alternative to semi-skimmed, purchase intent and willingness to switch.

Embleton Hall is a family company owned by Paul Thompson. It was started in 1984, when they began making cream and selling it to local manufacturers.

They now sell 320,000 litres of milk a week and have a turnover of £6.5m. They sell mostly to c-stores and supply both independents and multiples, including Sainsbury’s, although some goes to wholesale markets.
