COOKERY WRITER MRIDULA BALJEKAR RELEASES NEW BOOK

Regional Cooking of India by Mridula Baljekar has been published by Aquamarine Books.

The book on Indian cooking details classic local dishes and well-travelled favourites.

Among the 80 recipes readers will find dishes ranging from simple, street foods to rich, roasted meats and vegetables with marinades and classic spice combinations.

The introduction to the book unites the disparate strands of Indian culinary culture, and shows how regional foods are often tempered by migrant cultures, geography and religion as well as local traditions.

The recipes have been selected to capture the diversity of the subcontinent – from the kitchens of Kolkata to the small communities that dot the Malabar coast, or street snacks ranging from Central IndianParsnip patties to the kababs of Hyderabad.

Cookery writer, Mridula Baljekar is the best-selling author of many Indian cookery books, including Curry, Fat Free Indian Cookery and Real Fast Indian Food. She was born and raised in Assam, North-east India and when she moved to England she turned her passion for cooking into a career.

One of her latest books Great Indian Feasts was awarded both ‘The Best Asian Cookbook in the World’ and ‘Cookery Book of the Year’ in the same year. Mridula presented her own television series for Carlton Food Network and appeared as a guest chef in channel 4, BBC2, UKTV Food and Sky One.

Mridula recently launched ‘Mridula’s Pure & Fresh’, a range of exotic, all natural chutneys. Cooking sauces and ready meals are soon to be added to the range, which will all use fresh farm ingredients with no artificial additives.
