BAXTERS JOINS FORCES WITH CHEF TOM KITCHIN

June 7th, 2010

Baxters has teamed up with Michelin Star chef Tom Kitchin to create new Afternoon Tea inspired recipes that use a range of Baxters’ products.

Baxters, which produces ranges of soups, condiments, chutneys and preserves, has over one hundred and fifty food products on the market and this new marketing venture has been employed to boost sales of these with recipes for the summer months.

Tom Kitchin has taken the Baxters philosophy to ‘Be Different, Be Better’ and utilized it in order to create a new range ofdishes that can be recreated at home using products from the Baxters chutney, beetroot and conserves range.

The Afternoon Tea recipes aim to provide consumers with alternative ways of using Baxters’ products in cooking – both as an ingredient and as an accompaniment to sweet and savoury dishes.

Tom Kitchin says of his collaboration with Baxters:

“As a much treasured Scottish brand that is still family run, Baxters is a store cupboard essential.

As a chef, it was an honour for me to be invited to experiment with Baxters products and mix them with fresh produce to showcase recipes that are easy to recreate at home.

The twelve new recipes each incorporate one Baxters product to the dish. The new recipes include:

Baxters sliced beetroot and celeriac gratin served with cold cuts of ham
Baxters sliced beetroot salsa
Baxters rosebud beetroot fondue
Salad of Baxters rosebud beetroot mackerel, apple and walnut
Baxters rhubarb and ginger meringue tart
Baxters rhubarb and ginger conserve with mascarpone and red berries
Crepes and Baxters strawberry conserve
Swiss roll with Baxters strawberry conserve
Crostini with mozzarella, chorizo and Baxters tomato chutney with red pepper
Stuffed tomatoes with Baxters tomato chutney with red pepper
Oatcakes with cheddar, rocket and Baxters cranberry and caramelised red onion chutney
Roast beef wraps with basil and Baxters cranberry and caramelised red onion chutney

The recipes are simple and give details of servings, fat content, saturates, sugar content and salt content for each.

Kitchin goes on to say of the recipes that “Each product in the Baxters portfolio has its very own provenance and sourcing story and taste great either on its own or as part of a dish.”

Elaine Tewnion, brand manager at Baxters, is excited about the project. She says of the Afternoon Tea campaign:

“As a genuine champion of the Baxters name we are delighted to be working with the superbly talented Tom Kitchin on this campaign – the recipes he has created taste delicious and showcase new ways to use the Baxters chutney, beetroot and preserve ranges.”

Founded in 1868 Baxters found it roots making jam and the company has expanded massively since then, introducing soups and condiments to its product range.

The majority of Baxters products are available in all major supermarket retailers.
