PEMBROKESHIRE FISH WEEK 26TH JUNE – 4TH JULY

May 4th, 2010

Pembrokeshire Fish Week, which is billed as the seriously fishy festival for lovers of fresh fish and shellfish, will be celebrated with a huge variety of over 200 events and activities between Saturday 26th June and Sunday 4th July ranging from gourmet tastings to cookery demos and talks, island rambles, adventure watersports and many more coastal activities.

The organisers say you can enjoy a Celebrity Masterclass with chef Valentine Warner, presenter of the BBC series ‘What to Eat Now’, or a feast of fish cooked by seafood champion, chef and proprietor of the Seahorse, Mitch Tonks, and friends.

New this year are coasteering and foraging at the beautiful cliffs of Abereiddi, followed by a fish broth on the beach and a cookery course with Welsh chef Angela Gray, as well as various talks and debates.

Other events include an introduction to sea kayaking and fishing, after which you can cook your fresh catch at a beach barbecue; an evening river boat trip to explore the coastal scenery followed by a local fish supper back ashore, plus demonstrations and courses where you can enjoy hundreds of mouthwatering opportunities to tuck into fresh, locally caught fish and shellfish. Restaurants, pubs, cafés and bars have special menus throughout the week from seafood extravaganzas and fish tapas to freshly dressed local crab salads, and seafood chowders.

There are also guided river kayak trips, eco-fishing adventures, angling competitions, windsurfing and sailing sessions, while children can enjoy crab-catching, snorkel safaris, beach activity days and seaside-themed art and craft sessions. For music-lovers, there’s jazz at Tenby Harbour, folk in Fishguard and a sea shanty night at Milford Haven.

Pembrokeshire Fish Week, which celebrates its 11th birthday this year, is organised by Pembrokeshire County Council and part funded through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013, which is financed by the EU and the Assembly Government.
