MORRISONS GETS AWARDS FOR OWN LABEL EXCELLENCE

May 14th, 2010

Morrisons collected 5 awards at yesterday’s The Grocer Own Label Excellence Awards, with Gold and Silver accolades being given across the retailers’ food offering, ranging from The Best Cloudy Apple Juice to The Best Toffee Popcorn with Roasted Almonds and Hazlenuts and The Best Italian Cherry Tomatoes in Rich Tomato Juice to Morrisons Onion Bhaji Dippers.

The judges of the awards commended the most outstanding food and drink products in the own label category and this year the panel of industry experts judged particularly on taste, appearance, packaging, content, innovation, value for money and clarity of labelling. This saw Morrisons competing against other major UK food retailers such as Sainsbury’s, Tesco, ASDA, Waitrose and Marks and Spencer.

Martyn Jones, Group Trading Director for Morrisons commented, “We’re extremely proud to achieve such recognition for our own label products. We put a lot of time and effort into making them fantastic quality at outstanding value as we know our customers appreciate that and it’s what we’re renowned for!

Lorraine Hendle, Executive Director Grocery at William Reed Business Media, said “Morrisons have done extremely well again this year and deserve the praise given to each and every product. Our judges were impressed across range of criteria including taste, appearance, packaging, labelling and value.”
