YORKSHIRE BAKERY LAUNCHES ITALIAN BREAD RANGE
Helmsley based Thomas the Baker are launching a range of authentic Italian breads called The Rustica which they say are “Packed with all the freshness and flavour of the Mediterranean, so customers can now enjoy a ‘delizioso’ taste of Italy”.
There are three variants:
Rustica Classico – the definitive combination of fine Italian flour, extra virgin olive oil and malt flour
Rustica Formaggio – fine Italian flour with the added tang of fresh grated cheese
Rustica Pomodoro – a sumptuous blend of fine Italian flour and sun dried tomatoes marinated in white wine vinegar, with a sprinkling of oregano, capers and basil
One chunk of Rustica Pomodoro, hot from the oven, transforms a routine lunch into a Roman holiday.
“Anyone who samples our crusty Italian breads made with extra virgin olive oil or sun dried tomatoes knows they’re onto something special” said founder and owner John Thomas.
“We thought, why should you have to travel 1,000 miles to enjoy it? Now you need only go as far as your nearest Thomas the Baker to savour a taste of bella Italiana!”
Thomas’s are also selling a range of Rustica loaves for home baking – simply buy a loaf and heat it in the oven at home for just under six minutes for that wonderful, just-baked taste.
The Thomas family originally started the bakery in their garage, and have now expanded Thomas the Baker to over 30 shops across Yorkshire. Over the years its’ sausage rolls, teacakes, pork pies, Eccles cakes and many other products have regularly won taste tests against the retail giants such as Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Asda and Morrison’s.
John, who runs the business with his son Simon, who is General Manager, believes their Rustica range will stand up to similar scrutiny.
“I’m sure if Frankie Dettori or Sophia Loren popped into one of our shops, they’d love our Rustica breads,” said Simon. “And so will anyone who enjoys La Dolce Vita – or as we call it in North Yorkshire, ‘The Sweet Life’.”
• Thomas’ Rustica range will soon feature a selection of sandwiches, to give lunchtime a Mediterranean twist, alongside their already popular Ciabatta sandwiches.
