MORRISONS CHANGES OVER TO 100% FREE RANGE EGGS
Morrisons, one of the UK’s top four retailers has changed over to selling 100% British free own-label free range eggs.
They said they have also introduced an egg tracker which will allow consumers to follow their eggs back to the farm where they were produced. This system will be applied to their Nature’s Nest sub brand.
However all eggs will be given a code which will allow customers to find the origin of their eggs if they want to.
This innovation is nine months ahead of their original target.
As reported in just-food.com, Morrisons trading manager Jamie Winter, said “We sell over 10 million eggs each week, so our move to 100% British free range will really make a difference to the welfare of laying hens and will enable more customers to buy free range each week.”
