ICB LAUNCHES SAMBUCHA VARIANTS
ICB have just extended the range by adding Black (liquorice), Cherry, and Blackcurrant to their Sambuxo Original aniseed liqueur brand.
Sambuca has a certain retro glamour that stems from its heyday in the 70’s when stylish Italian restaurants added that essential element of theatre by floating the obligatory (“lucky”) three coffee beans on top and setting fire to the liqueur for a second or two, before serving it as a digestif.
Since much of the glamour of the 70’s has been rediscovered by a younger generation it is no surprise that the traditional aniseed liqueur has found its way onto young adults’ Top of the Pops list of drinks.
However, as ICB, makers of Sambuxo point out, many young adult consumers would be
more than a little surprised to find that, at 38% ABV, Sambuca has an alcohol level equivalent to full strength spirits.
At 22%, ICB’s Sambuxo aniseed liqueur is a “lighter” alternative to traditional Sambuca and as such provides all the fun and flavour at a much lower alcohol level, something that smarter, more ABV-aware drinkers are beginning to appreciate.
John Mills, MD of ICB, comments:
“We have watched Sambuca grow hugely in popularity in recent years, especially with flavoured extensions. It is a delightful drink for people looking for something distinctive, flavoursome and fun. The signs are that we are getting our Sambuxo aniseed liqueur offering right for consumers who enjoy that strong, sweet aniseed taste, but want a lower alcohol alternative to fit with a more moderate drinking attitude and that’s why we have added three more flavours.
Because the %ABV is lower, Sambuxo aniseed liqueur tends to hit a lower price point making it more accessible to a wider population.”
Sambuxo Original, Sambuxo Black, Sambuxo Blackcurrant, and Sambuxo Cherry are available in 70cl bottles and can be served straight over ice, with a favourite mixer or as a single measure added to coffee for a delightful after dinner drink.
