CADBURY RECRUITS 2000 BRITS TO REMIND EVERYONE HOW TO PLAY GAMES AND HAVE FUN

April 26th, 2010

Cadbury, the official treat provider to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games launches spots v stripes – the biggest, longest, most inclusive game ever, for anyone and everyone across the UK to play.

Remember a time when all you did was PLAY GAMES? British Bulldog, Keepy Uppy, Hop Scotch, Marbles, Hide & Seek…When the only structure to your day was LUNCHTIME AND TEATIME? And games only stopped when your mum called you in for your tea, or it was too dark? Spots v Stripes will take you back to that time.

Spots v Stripes is a game that ANYBODY can play, at ANY TIME, with ANYONE.

Cadbury will be dividing the nation into two teams – the Spots and the Stripes, and to participate all you need to do is join one of the teams, sign up on the website and begin playing games! Any game will count – from KISS CHASE TO EYE SPY, THUMB WARS TO ARM WRESTLING, SHOE GOLF TO CRAZY GOLF; as long as you can score a point, you can play!

To kick off the campaign, Cadbury is unveiling its team of GAMES AMBASSADORS, an army of over two thousand Spots and Stripes who will be travelling the length and breadth of the country from the end of May to REIGNITE THE SPIRIT OF PLAY everywhere!

Their purpose will be to encourage millions of people across the country to play over the next three years. With a kit of games and activities, the Cadbury Games Ambassadors will organize and facilitate FREE GAME PLAY in areas such as UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES, VILLAGE FETES, FESTIVALS, CHURCH HALLS AND SPORTS CENTRES all across the UK.

So that as many people in the UK as possible get the opportunity to be part of the fun, Cadbury is working with the national charity, Groundwork, to bring Spots and Stripes to harder to reach communities. People will also be able to participate at Cadbury’s website which is launching this Summer and at playful events which are touring the country.

Ben Knight, one of the first Cadbury Games Ambassadors recruited, said: “Spots v Stripes is going to be massive – it’s CADBURY’S BIGGEST INITIATIVE EVER, and we hope as many people take part as possible. Often people feel like they haven’t got the time to have fun in their busy lives anymore and as the Official Treat Provider to London 2012 it’s our opportunity to remind people why it’s important and get them playing a little bit every day! We know they won’t look back once they start!”

Cadbury Marketing Director, Phil Rumbol, (who is a Spot), added: “Cadbury has always PIONEERED THE VALUE OF RECREATIONAL TIME and we encourage our employees to participate in doing good work in the community. In the past, Cadbury provided PLAYING FIELDS, BOWLING GREENS AND SWIMMING BATHS for employees. The company’s Quaker values recognized the value of play as an important part of its workers’ day. Those values remain at Cadbury and we support as a company over 18,000 of employee voluntary hours per year in charitable schemes all over the country.

Spots v Stripes is the biggest and most ambitious programme that Cadbury has ever undertaken. We are excited to deliver the programme across the whole of the UK in the build up to 2012.”

Seb Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, said: “At LOCOG we are very excited by the potential of Spots v Stripes. Its vision of inspiring and engaging the whole of the UK in a campaign which, at its core, celebrates the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, is something we wholeheartedly support.”
