26TH APRIL IS NATIONAL PRETZEL DAY
We are told that for snacking behemoths Nestle, chocolate pretzels are just a small part of their multi-billion dollar empire, but to UK start-up company, The Big Yum, they represent the first step in their brand’s future.
The manufacturers say it may have been 8 years since Nestle’s Flipz disappeared from the UK market, but this Monday 26th April, National Pretzel Day, The Big Yum take on the World’s LARGEST company, with the launch of their own version of the much missed confectionery, ‘Chocolate Swerves’.
Described by some as ‘the best thing to happen to pretzels since George Bush choked on one’ (whilst watching the Super Bowl in 2002), chocolate pretzels offer the perfect combination of a salty/sweet snack, and achieved a near cult status thanks to Nestle back in 2002. Flipz unceremoniously disappeared almost overnight, but now The Big Yum are taking up the baton to bring them back!
After two years in the making, The Big Yum husband & wife team, Pippa & Aaron Witcher, have high hopes for their new ‘Chocolate Swerves’ which can be purchased online from their website www.thebigyum.com and will also be available EXCLUSIVELY from Harvey Nichols from 26th April, appropriately National Pretzel Day!
Chief Yum, Pippa Witcher, commented: “Nestle brought chocolate pretzels to the UK, got us all hooked and then took them off the market – a whole generation loved them! They’re as retro as The Goonies, Rubix Cube and Global Technicolour T-Shirts and 8 years later we’re bringing them back! ‘Chocolate Swerves’ are the only UK manufactured chocolate pretzels and we know we’ll be taking on the snacking big boys. To borrow the sentiment of Nestle, ‘You’ll like them, but you won’t know why!’”
The Big Yum’s ‘Chocolate Swerves’ (salted pretzels enrobed in milk chocolate jackets with white chocolate pinstripes) are available in two sizes – a 70g Snack Pack (rrp £1.80) and a 250g Sharing Pack (rrp £4.00).
