MORRISONS WIN GLOBAL WINE EDUCATOR OF YEAR AWARD
Morrisons have become the first UK company to win the Riedel Trophy for the WSET Educator of the Year.
The award celebrates those companies or individuals who have made a significant contribution to WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) courses and qualifications.
WSET courses form part of the Morrisons Academy and judges praised Morrisons for “…the approach of the Morrisons team to WSET programs, which form part of the Morrisons Wine Adviser course. It was clear that Morrisons view well-educated staff as an integral part of delivering top quality customer service, which is second to none.”
Ian Harris, Chief Executive of WSET commented: “Morrisons is a deserved winner of the Riedel trophy for the WSET Educator of the Year, as they made very comprehensive submission to the judges. After two years of this trophy being won by international providers of WSET programs, it is very refreshing – in a time when the UK is still feeling the effects of recession – that a major UK supermarket is continuing to invest in staff education.”
Tim Phillips, Morrisons BWS Store Specialist said: “Congratulation to our BWS team who over the last 10 years have delivered and developed this course. We train over 100 managers and staff per year to be qualified Wine Advisers, now part of the Morrisons Academy. To be recognised for this commitment is fantastic and a testament to our hard working staff.”
Norman Pickavance, HR Director at Morrisons adds, “As part of our commitment to be a food specialist for everyone, we train over 100 managers and staff per year to be qualified Wine Advisers, now part of the Morrisons Academy. To be recognised for this commitment is really good news and a testament to our hard working staff.
The Morrisons Academy aims to build pride and commitment and to establish Morrisons as the UK leader in craft food skills, helping us to achieve our vision of being ‘The Food Specialist for Everyone’. The Academy aims to train 100,000 people to achieve a QCF* national qualification Level 2 certificate by mid 2011. Already, 20,000 employees have started training for this nationally recognised qualification in retail skills.
