GOOD FOOD GUIDE READER’S RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR 2010 LAUNCHED

March 9th, 2010

GOOD FOOD GUIDEThe search for The Good Food Guide Readers’ Restaurant of the Year 2010* kicked off this week and any restaurant, pub or café across the UK is in with a chance to win this prestigious award.

More than 23,000 nominations were received last year, but Ronnies restaurant in Thornbury beat off stiff competition to win. The award had a significant impact on the business.

Ronnies’ owner, Ron Faulkner, says:

“Winning The Good Food Guide Readers’ Restaurant of the Year award changed everything for us. Not only did it give us a pat on the back for all the hard work we had put in, it also brought customers from far and wide to see us. It actually boosted business by 35 per cent on the previous year, despite the recession.”

Food lovers are being asked to put forward their favourite British eateries by logging on to www.which.co.uk/gfgaward or sending in a postcard, available for restaurants to download at www.which.co.uk/gfgpostcard. The closing date for entries is 21 April.

For the 2010 award, judges are looking for independently-owned establishments that deliver excellent regional dishes and use local producers where possible. In line with this year’s Which? Awards theme of ‘Who cares, wins’, they’re also looking for restaurants where the customer service is top class.

Elizabeth Carter, Editor, The Good Food Guide, urges restaurateurs:

“Despite the recession, there’s still a big appetite for dining out in the UK. To be in with a chance of winning The Good Food Guide Restaurant of the Year award, make sure you ask your customers to nominate you if they’ve enjoyed their dining experience.”

Nominees do not need to have appeared in the guide to be considered but need to achieve Good Food Guide standards. Ten regional winners*** will be announced in early May. They will then go head to head to be crowned the overall winner of The Good Food Guide Readers’ Restaurant of the Year award at the Which? Awards on 19 May. All ten finalists will appear in the next edition of the guide.

* The Good Food Guide Readers’ Restaurant of the Year award is one of the annual Which? Awards, taking place this year on 19 May 2010. At the Awards, Which? publicly recognises those companies and individuals that consistently get it right for the consumer. The Good Food Guide Readers’ Restaurant of the Year award is the only annual award based on nominations submitted by the general public.

** The first entry to be drawn at random after the closing date will win a meal for two at the regional winning restaurant most local to the entrant. No refund or cash alternative is available. The prize draw is open to all UK residents aged 18 and over, with the exception of Which? employees, their immediate families or anyone connected with Which?. Nominations for restaurants that you or a family member have business or personal connections with / to will not be accepted. There is only one prize and the winner will be informed in writing within 14 days of the closing date and must claim their prize within 14 days of this notification. Which?
