BARISTA AWARDS AT HOTELYMPIA
Monday’s final of the UK Barista Championship, held at Hotelympia proved to be an exciting affair with John Gordon, of Gorilla Tampers based in London, taking the top spot. John will now go on to represent the UK at the World Barista Championships against 60 other countries in London this June.
John is no stranger to barista competitions as he was a finalist in last years UK Barista Championship, as well as being a finalist in last years World Latte Art Championship in Cologne.
This year he had the edge and impressed the judges with all of his drinks, taking the best espresso, best cappuccino and best signature drink categories.
The previous day the 20 semi finalists were whittled down to the top six finalists. The final positions for these six were:
1st John Gordon Gorilla Tampers, London
2nd Dale Harris First Choice Coffee, London
3rd Neil Le Bihan Exchange Coffee, London
4th Trevor Hyam The Plan Café, Caerphilly
5th James Phillips Dose Espresso, London
6th Simone Guerini-Rocco Peros, High Wycombe
All of the baristas gave world class performances and so the prospects look good for all UK coffee lovers, and for success again at the World Finals!
