Natty’s Welsh Rarebit will be sold in the 5th floor Foodmarket of Harvey Nichols from February 26th 2010 with a free tasting session given by its Welsh creator, 43-year-old Natalie Nield-Siddall on Saturday February 27th.

Welsh girl Natalie was brought up in Rhyl, Denbighshire. She hit upon the idea to produce an amalgamation of both her own Grandmother’s and Vera Hughes, her fiancé’s Grandmother’s Welsh Rarebit recipes after family encouragement in 2008. With no change to the recipe, it is now produced in commercial quantities just 10 miles away from her present home in Bryniau. The recipe uses only local ingredients.

Welsh Rarebit is a Welsh signature savory dish made from cheese and various other ingredients and served hot over toasted bread. The name of the dish originates from 18th century Great Britain, and cookbooks reveal that it was then considered to be a luscious supper or tavern dish, based on the fine cheddar-type cheeses.

Natalie’s special recipe incorporates beer, onions and special extras. She first sold her authentic “Natty’s Welsh Rarebit” in farmers’ markets and then in independent stores and farm shops and has built up a loyal local and national following. She says: “The demand and enthusiasm for Natty’s Welsh Rarebit gave us the confidence to grow from strength to strength. I know I must be onto a winner because every step I take to further this project a door is opened and business flows. The simplicity of each procedure assures me that I am on the right path, which complements my drive and passion for the product.”

Natty’s Welsh Rarebit will be available in four flavours – Original, Leek, Chilli and Bacon ready for you to just spread on your toast and grill. Harvey Nichols will be retailing 200g pots for £3.85.
