BARAK OBAMA CARVED IN CHEDDAR AT LONDON CHEESE GALLERY
Some of the world’s most famous faces have been recreated in London this week using LowLow cheese. The life-size edible exhibition from renowned food artist and cheese lover Prudence Staite, famous for turning everyday food into works of art, launches in London’s Kings Road Gallery today.
“From ‘Dita von Cheese’, to ‘Chedda Cole’, these celebrities embody part of our celebrity culture today,” explains Prudence. ‘Low-bama himself is not averse to tapping into our love of celebrity and the bust I’ve created communicates both his serious and fun lighthearted nature.’
Prudence works in a range of culinary materials, with her previous favourite being chocolate.
‘Despite loving a good cheeseboard, I’ve never worked with cheese but LowLow lends itself fantastically well to being modelled and shaped. I have always thought that aspects of celebrity culture are incredibly cheesy but I’m hoping these beautiful slim line women will appreciate being made from a lower fat cheese; they certainly all have good taste in common!’
The Dita von Teese model is made almost entirely of cheese, and the Barack Obama bust has been made from one solid 20kg block of LowLow mature cheese. The Chedda Cole portrait was created using LowLow cheese in slices and grated, plus all the key ingredients of a tasty cheeseboard from grapes and biscuits to chutney and nuts. All the models were being nibbled at today by cheese-loving gallery visitors.
The gallery is open now at Kings Road Gallery, 436 King’s Road, London, SW10 0LJ and will be created again later this year to tour regional galleries.
