OCADO LAUNCHES DELI SECTION
Ocado has introduced a ‘deli counter’ style section called Service Counter offering customers the ability to select fresh meat and fish, pick how they would like it prepared and select weight options all to be delivered with their weekly shop.
• It’s an exciting change for the Ocado offering as the virtual deli counter injects more personal, human interaction into the online shop
• The service counter has seen 25 members of staff trained by fishmongery and butchery experts, including an award winning Billingsgate fishmonger
• The new online service gives the customer a choice over how they want their meat or fish prepared (i.e. scaled, filleted, racked etc) allowing them to select certain weights, thickness and sizes of cuts as if they had gone to their local butchers
Jon Rudoe, head of retail at Ocado, commented:
“We have always wanted to deliver the over-the-counter deli experience of a traditional supermarket straight to the customer’s doorstep and our new Service Counter will offer online shoppers an extensive range of quality fish and meat products, prepared exactly how they want them.
“We’re really excited about our latest innovation; our kitchen facilities are state of the art, and we have brought new skills to our growing workforce.
“Ocado’s progress has been driven, largely, by technology but Service Counter adds a human touch that no online supermarket has yet provided.”
