NEW FIRM LAUNCHES SCRATCH COOKERY KIT IN CENTRAL LONDON
Scratch a small food company set up by three young graduates – Alex, Phil and Farleigh have found an increasing appetite for their fresh meal kits as people start to stock their fridges for the weeks ahead.
“We’ve seen a unprecedented demand for our boxes. They are the perfect nutritious ration pack. Tasty, wholesome, quick and fun. They are the ultimate food survival kit to keep you going through this chilly winter” says Farleigh
SCRATCH make fresh meal kits- a box with all the chopped, washed and weighed ingredients as well as the instructions to cook your meal from scratch. The meals are for one and cook in around 15 minutes with one or two pans.
The idea was born out of their frustration with ready meals and microwavable convenience meals. ‘Fresh food invariably tastes better than the microwavable convenience meals busy Londoners usually settle for.
Trouble is that work, friends and relaxation seem more important than searching for lemongrass and onion induced tears.’ Says co-founder and Edinburgh University graduate, Phil Pinnell, 24.
“With Scratch we are trying to make healthy, exciting recipes easy and affordable to cook at home” said Alex.
The three graduates are fully committed to sustainable sourcing and take great care regarding the provenance of their ingredients.
“That means sourcing free‐range meat from farmers we know, using unsprayed veg and buying from British farmers as much as possible,” said Phil.
The current menu is a vegetable red thai curry, a moroccan chicken tagine, a crayfish, tomato and feta pasta and a chicken and chorizo jambalaya.
“We source our produce carefully- our chicken is free range, crayfish wild and our vegetables the freshest New Covent Garden has to offer. We never use additives or preservatives. Our trays are 50% recycled and 100% recyclable and the card around the box is 100% recycled and 100% recyclable.”
Though Scratch is starting small, its three young directors have big ambitions for the company.
- Scratch boxes are available from a selection of London outlets including Sourced Market in Kings Cross St Pancras station, the Budgens in Crouch End, Budgens in Belsize Park, the Grocery in Shoreditch 54-56 Kingsland Road, and Couture Food hall in Royal Arsenal.
