USA AD AGENCY DECLARE THAT SARDINES ARE THE NEW TUNA
As reported in the Los Angeles Times today wine cocktails, sardines and “a consumer backlash against ubiquitous nutritional claims by food manufacturers” are among the top food trends for 2010″. The LA Times is reporting on a piece of research conducted recently by US based advertising agency JWT.
The agency has compiled five top trends, we wonder how? But they do count the big food companies such as Nestle, Kraft and Kellogg’s amongst their clients.
JWT suggests that for American consumers, Bacon is going to creep out of the BLT sandwich and is going to show up in cocktails made with bacon-infused liquor for example a new Vodka called Bakon. Click here to find out more information about this “Bacon Flavoured” Vodka.
The agency goes on to explore the idea that “organic has become the new hook in quick-service eateries”. It mentions chains such as Naked Pizza, O!Burger and Organic to go which are becoming popular across the pond … it also has noticed that “The trend has hit Europe too!”
It also says that wine mixed with juices will be on their way together with wine mixed with sodas to make new tastes with a lower alcohol content.
Health-claim backlash: Government authorities and health and nutrition experts are paying more attention to the proliferation of health and nutrition claims from food and beverage brands, pointing out inaccuracies and asking for changes. Shoppers also “will increasingly take health messaging with a grain of salt,” according to JWT.
JWT also predicts that US consumers will be more vigilant about health claims by major food manufacturers and will be taking them with a “grain of salt”. We have to presume here that JWT will have done a huge amount of qual research groups, and this will almost certainly be one of the outputs.
Finally the agency predicts that Sardines are the new tuna: And if it has got a Sardine client that would mean enough spend to make Sardines the new tuna. It is foretold that it will appear on menus, often grilled or pan roasted (surprise). Sardines have the right credentials and realistic health claims … high in Omega 3 and “low in mercury!”
