SAINSBURY’S SOLD 130 MILLION BRUSSELS SPROUTS

December 29th, 2009

SproutsSainsburys8Dedicated British suppliers in Boston, Lincolnshire, embarked on their busiest period of sprout harvesting last week with sprouts being hand picked round the clock, in flood lit fields, 24 hours a day.

Sprout buyer at Sainsbury’s Siobhan Geary commented Sainsbury’s is committed to delivering the freshest British produce where possible and we are particularly proud of our sprouts!

A dedicated team of pickers embarked on a  48hr non stop sprout harvest a few days before the big day, working through the night and going that extra mile to ensure the freshest and sweetest sprouts are on our customer’s plates on the 25th December.

Siobhan also went on to say “Sprouts are always popular but in the past they were seen as the annoying uncle of the Christmas dinner. Our shoppers are now much more adventurous with how they prepare sprouts with chestnuts, pancetta and sage just a few of the ingredients being used to give them a more punchy flavour”
